Lean Manufacturing Consulting and Training
Although lean processes are applicable in all industries, the philosophy was first fully implemented
in manufacturing by Toyota. There are numerous definitions and interpretations and if implemented
incorrectly, the results can be devastating. If implemented correctly the results are quite honestly
amazing. The benefits shown statistically are rather impressive. The benefits include the following:
- Reduces lead time by 90%
- Doubles labor productivity
- Reduces throughput time by 90%
- Improves quality by 85%
- Reduces inventory by 90%
- Reduces WIP by 90%
- Reduces defects/scrap by 50%
- Improves space utilization by 50%
The true definition or aim of lean enterprise is as follows:
Providing customers exactly what they want, exactly when they want it, and at a price they are
willing to pay; through the endless pursuit of perfection and elimination of waste in the value
Now, we realize this is a steep goal but with diligence and the assistance of a seasoned lean expert
the benefits mentioned above can become a reality.
The statistics only show part of the benefits however. Other factors are affected as well. In lean
manufacturing employees are more motivated and satisfied with their jobs. Therefore, turnover is
reduced and creativity abounds.
There are also environmental improvements. Lean manufacturing processes typically lead to a
reduction in emissions and resource consumption. This aspect is often overlooked but is now being
further identified as a benefit of lean manufacturing processes.
I mentioned above that it is recommended to bring in an expert at the onset of your transformation.
I can not stress enough the importance of this. However, our goal when assisting you with the
transition is not to have you become dependent on a consultant or trainer. Our goal instead is to
help you begin your journey to lean, to provide the necessary training, and to help you develop both
a long-term and short-term plan of implementation and methods of maintaining the new system. As part
of our implementation program we provide the tools and knowledge needed to enable your organization
to move forward without the constant interference of consultants. There is a fine line between
assistance and interference. If you find that your organization is dependent on a consultant you
should look elsewhere. Our goal is to empower your organization; not to cripple it through creating
a needless dependency on our services.
Once this is established we will follow up with you periodically and are available if you require
Our expertise in the technical aspects in combination with our extensive knowledge in HR issues, employee development, leadership development, change management, team building, and diversity form a powerful implementation program.
