Six Sigma Training
Six sigma, simply defined, is the systematic
and scientific approach toward reducing variation and improving quality and
consistency. We offer multiple levels of six sigma training programs ranging in
complexity from basic to advanced with
four levels of certification. Our approach is very "hands-on". For
info on certification please visit our
Six Sigma Certification
page.
Introductory Six Sigma Topics
In the first training module we introduce the following basics of six sigma.
- Continuous and endless improvement
- Process capability studies
- Variation: Common and assignable
- Eliminating assignable variation
- Continuous improvement: variation reduction
- Basic statistical tools
- DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control)
- Effective problem solving tools and techniques
- Affects of tampering
- Preventative maintenance
- Six Sigma project teams
- Leadership
- Empowerment
- Shifts in organizational culture
The purpose of this introductory six sigma training module is not to delve too heavily into the statistical calculations. The
trainees will work through basic calculations in order to help them understand how measurements relate to continuous efforts
in reducing variation. However, the goals are to prepare your workforce for the highly effective, yet extremely rigorous and
ongoing, task of reducing variation, reducing defects, improving processes, and
improving quality in all areas of the organization; not to become statisticians.
A small hands-on six sigma project will be included in this module.
Intermediate Six Sigma and Intro to Lean
In our second module we introduce lean methodology and expand upon module one topics. During this module, in addition to
classroom training and hands-on exercises, teams must complete an improvement project within the organization. Following a
needs assessment the project teams must analyze the process to be improved, apply what they have learned, and document the
results. The teams must then give a formal presentation to Senior Management and key decision-makers outlining what they have
learned and accomplished, as well as the resulting organizational benefits of their project.
We feel it is critical that trainees not only complete both six sigma and basic lean training, but know how to put this new
knowledge to work.
Advanced Six Sigma and Lean Methodology
In this module we begin more advanced lean training and again expand on the six sigma concepts. The teams will again
complete a project. However, this project will not only include six sigma concepts but a lean initiative as well.
Team report and presentation follow this module also.
The benefits of our six sigma training programs include decreased operating costs, reduced defects, increased capacity, more
reliable processes, highly focused improvement efforts, more effective root cause identification, elimination of waste in the
value stream, improved employee morale, and above all -- improved customer satisfaction.
The six sigma and intro to lean training can also serve as a method of preparing your organization for a full lean implementation project.
